IPL 2025: Sanju Samson Fitness Update - Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson, who was suffering from a finger injury, has now fully recovered and will be taking up wicket-keeping duties in upcoming IPL matches and BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE - formerly the National Cricket Academy NCA) has given approval for this. Therefore, he will be leading the team in the next match against Punjab Kings on April 5, 2025. Young batter Riyan Parag captained the team in the first three matches.

The Rajasthan Royals team was in turmoil due to captain Sanju Samson's injury problem. It also affected the results. The good news is that Sanju Samson has fully recovered from his finger injury. The Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru has now given the green signal that he can bat and also take the responsibility of wicket-keeping in the next match. Sources at the centre have confirmed this.

Therefore, he will lead the team in the match against Punjab Kings in Mohali. As a result, the Rajasthan Royals team, which seemed to be in disarray under the caretaker captain, now seems to have regained its strength.

What happened?: Sanju Samson's Injury

He injured his finger in the 5th T20I against the visiting England before the ICC Champions Trophy. He underwent surgery for proper treatment. Although Sanju recovered within a month, the doctors did not allow him to handle the responsibility of wicket-keeping. They had instructed him to only bat. At this time, the team management gave Riyan Parag the captaincy responsibility and kept Sanju Samson in the team as a batsman only. Dhruv Jurel handled the wicket-keeper duties. This is why Sanju Samson, who played as an impact player in the first three matches, only came out to bat.

After the match against Chennai, he went to the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru and has now confirmed his fitness. Now that Sanju Samson is back in full force, Riyan Parag will be relieved of the captaincy. There is no certainty whether Dhruv Jurel, who was handling wicket-keeping duties, will be retained or not.

Sanju Samson's Impact Player Role

Sanju Samson, who batted as an impact player, scored 66 runs against Sunrisers (SRH), 13 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and 20 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). This time, Rajasthan Royals have lost two of their three matches and won the third. With Sanju Samson cleared to lead, they are expected to correct their past mistakes and move forward.
